PGH Partner Blake Williams Wins $75,000 Jury Verdict in Car Collision Lawsuit
On February 7, 2024, a Tuscaloosa County jury returned a $75,000 verdict in favor of Blake Williams’ very deserving client who filed a lawsuit after being injured in a car collision. The collision occurred on Highway 82 in Northport, Alabama, in front of Lowe’s. Blake’s client was driving to work on Highway 82 one morning from Coker, Alabama, and a vehicle pulled through a median area and t-boned Blake’s client’s vehicle.
Blake worked to resolve his client’s claims without filing a lawsuit. It became clear, however, that a lawsuit would be necessary for Blake’s client to be fully compensated for her injuries. So, Blake filed a lawsuit against the at-fault driver and against his client’s auto insurance company. Blake’s client had a type of coverage called underinsured motorist benefits (UIM) coverage. This coverage applies when another driver is at-fault but they do not have enough insurance coverage. In this case, the at-fault driver only had minimal insurance policy limits of $25,000. Blake believed that his client’s damages exceeded that amount.
Blake pursued this case vigorously, taking several depositions, including the at-fault driver and two of Blake’s client’s treating doctors. This testimony was presented at trial, along with the testimony of Blake’s client’s husband and a co-worker of Blake’s client. After a short trial, the jury returned a verdict of $75,000 for Blake’s client. Blake was happy for his client and pleased that she was finally compensated for her injuries and all that she went through after the car collision.
