PGH partner, Bob Prince, recently settled a car wreck case for $125,000.00. The wreck occurred in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama at the intersection of Greensboro Avenue and Old Mill Street. Bob’s client was severely injured when he was hit by the adverse driver who, according to a witness was travelling between 70 and 80 miles per hour. Since liability was clear, Bob made a claim against the adverse driver’s insurance carrier for policy limits. He also made a claim against his client’s insurance carrier for benefits due pursuant to his client’s uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. The policy limits of the adverse driver (the $25,000 minimum required by law) were insufficient to fully compensate Bob’s client. Bob was able to “stack” his client’s UIM policies covering several vehicles and those benefits totaled $100,000.00.
The attorneys at PGH take every opportunity to encourage friends and clients to always purchase uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. Uninsured motorist coverage is a type of coverage that you purchase with your own automobile insurance company to protect you in the event you are injured by another driver who is uninsured. If you are injured by another driver, whether you are driving your vehicle or are a pedestrian, and that driver does not have insurance, your insurance company will pay for your injuries. Within uninsured motorist coverage is underinsured motorist coverage. This applies when you are injured by another driver, whether you are driving your vehicle or are a pedestrian, and that driver has insurance, but does not have enough insurance to adequately compensate you for your injuries.
