On August 19, 2022,  a Tuscaloosa County jury returned a $381,000.00 verdict in favor of a PGH client who was seriously injured as she was leaving the Dollar General store located in Northwood Crossings shopping center.  The verdict was against Dolgencorp (doing business as Dollar General).  An automobile crashed into the store and seriously and permanently injured our client.  The automobile experienced sudden mechanical issues and lost steering power and brake function.  The complaint filed in the Circuit Court of Tuscaloosa County named Dolgencorp, the driver of the automobile, the dealership where she purchased the automobile and our client’s uninsured motorist carrier as defendants.  Matt settled the claims against the adverse driver, the dealership and our client’s uninsured motorist carrier.  The total settlement obtained against those 3 defendants was $1,550,000.  A settlement agreement could not be reached with Dolgencorp so the claims against it had to be tried.  Those claims alleged that Dolgencorp was negligent and/or wanton by failing to correct a defective condition on its premises through the incorporation of known safety devices (including barricades known as bollards to prevent vehicles from crashing into its stores).  Matt and Blake worked diligently on this case.  They took and defended numerous depositions of parties, experts and witnesses.  They filed written interrogatories and requests for production.
